Yoga Retreats: Logistics & FAQ

St. John

How do I get to St. John?

During the peak winter season, most major Northeast cities have non-stop flights to St. Thomas (STT) The island is approximately 3 1/2 hours from Boston or NY. During off-peak season flights connect on NY, Puerto Rico and Miami. Major airlines servicing St. Thomas include American Airlines, Delta, US Air.

Once you arrive in St. Thomas you'll be picked up at the airport and transported to the villa by the retreat leaders.

Where is St. John?

St. John is located in the Caribbean southeast of Puerto Rico and it is one of the 3 US Virgin Islands. The other two islands that make up the USVI are St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Do I need a passport?

A passport is not currently required for US citizens, however if you have one it is recommended that you bring it for your identification. Otherwise you will need a birth certificate and other official photo ID. Please be sure to check with the airlines prior to your departure just in case regulations change at the last minute.

What should I pack?

Comfortable, casual clothes and a bathing suit. Light fabrics are comfortable in this tropical climate. The sun is really strong so a hat and sunscreen are key. Sneakers are fine to use for the hikes, but if you have hiking boots that are comfortable you can bring them. No need to pack any yoga props, all the blocks, straps, etc. are at the villa - just bring some comfortable yoga gear.

Do I need to have yoga or hiking experience?

No, however being in generally good shape will probably enhance your experience. There will also be plenty of very gentle yoga and short walks for those of you not interested in a lot of physical exertion on your vacation!!! And it is your vacation....so only do what you enjoy!

How will I get around the island?

Transportation will be provided for you in SUVs either by the villa owners or by the retreat leader, depending on the retreat. If you decide to do your own activities, there are taxis available on the island.

Do I have to participate in the retreat activities?

No, everything is optional. You are welcome to lounge by the pool at the villa or explore the island on your own.

How much money should I plan on spending once I arrive?

Less than $200 if you plan on eating meals and participating in activities offered by the retreat leaders. There is lots of great duty-free shopping, in case you do want to spend a little money.

What kind of food will be served?

Mediterranean and vegetarian prepraed by a local chef. Non-vegetarian options are available.

What yoga style will be practiced on the yoga retreats? And where will do our practice?

Each retreat leader plans their own schedule, but here is and example from a retreat lead by the villa owners (Florian Paradise Retreat): Morning yoga will be in the vinyasa (flow and slow flow) style with lots of modifications offered to accommodate all levels.
